Film to Look Out For - 2015

Avengers: Age of Ultron - Edited

Created on 11/05/14 by JasonTodd
By now most of you have seen the trailer. Marvel's newest, and probably biggest attraction, the sequel to the biggest superhero crossover movie to date, is coming to theaters in May 2015. If features the all star cast of the first movie along with Aaron Taylor Johnson (Kick-butt), Elizabeth Olsen (Godzilla), James Spader (TV's The Blacklist), and Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings trilogy). The plot seems to generally fall around the same area of the Avengers (an unlikely team of heroes suit up to fight an enemy they can only take down if they work together, which is not an easy task), but with a new twist. And by twist I mean villain. Ultron, the sentient robot built by Tony Stark, who feels that he is now free from his oppressive strings and takes it out on the rest of the world. Exclusive details are being kept quiet at the moment for good reason, but that's the general idea.
Let me just say, before I go on, that that trailer was one of the best I've ever seen and has gotten me extremely stoked to see this movie. As a major comic book geek and fan of Marvel (DC's still better) I will definitely be viewing this in theaters.
The first Avengers grossed over 1 billion and is still the highest grossing superhero movie ever, so I assume Age of Ultron will beat or match this. As for ratings, I can't be too sure. Some of the early Phase 2 Marvel movies were mediocre compared to the rest. Despite how good or bad it may be, nerds and geeks around the world will most likely give this movie their highest rating, so it'll probably be around the 8.0 area. If you liked the first movie (or any Marvel movie for that matter) and want to have some major fun at the theater, you should go watch this when it comes out.

I recently had the chance to see this movie the day after it's 300 million dollar opening day. While it was definitely a fun ride and a great movie, I can't say that it lived up to its predecessor. This movie felt more like it was setting up for Phase 3, rather than creating its own plot. It was humorous and action-packed, like most Marvel films, but I felt the effects in some places were strangely and unnecessarily sloppy, especially compared the first movie, which had a smaller budget. But, of course, don't let my complaining stop you from seeing this. I still thoroughly enjoyed it, and I don't doubt that most of you will as well. At the path it's going, (making 2nd highest grossing movie of the year in two days) Age of Ultron is likely going to surpass it's original, and definitely be the highest grossing movie of the year for a while (might get beaten out by Star Wars). With a current rating of 8.2 on IMDb, my predictions seem to be fairly spot on.

P.S. - The Hulkbuster scene is definitely the best part of the movie, and probably the best part of Phase 2 Marvel as a whole.
