It's absolutely mindboggling to me that my IT dept thinks I'm going to approve for them to take the prod server offline for 11 days to upgrade from CentOS to Rocky Linux.

This is after I accidentally approved for them taking the test server off for 7 days. I thought it meant like 7 days for the whole process - like documenting, backup, etc (which can be done while the server is running) - not 7 days for the downtime.

I'm confident that I could do it in like 3-5 hours - max overnight.

Also, why do they do these during work hours? I don't manage IT, but it seems reasonable to me that things with downtime should be done while people aren't using it. When I do a downtime related thing that could cause issues, I do them at like 9pm.
