gahhh I rented a car for a couple days a few weeks ago and specifically chose to pay all tolls with cash to avoid crazy rental car toll fees, but I still managed to get slapped with a pay-by-plate-only bridge and a toll booth that was closed with instructions to pay online, but the online portal rejected payment because the car is registered to the rental car's transponder already.

$4 worth of tolls turned into $28 worth of tolls + fees, for my "convenience"
