But tbh the homescreen might be overwritten in memory by games when loaded, seems like it's that way for the native DS launcher. So I guess yeah it basically is the whole OS
@CJ101 Yeah I found it weird too, the biggest thing I've seen is Twilight menu. Repo shows it was made in 2017 and a lot of commits and progress is being made still, and the discord for DS(i) homebrew is still really active with a bunch of people both experimenting with making homebrew and trying to setup flash cards to play ds games on.
It seems like it's big from 3DS/DSi/DS overlap, but a lot of people are posting stuff about their DSi. Guessing the 3DS still has homebrew issues from needing to use security vulnerabilities that Nintendo might've patched out in newer firmware.
No idea about dwarf fortress, about 327 tiles easily get updated per frame in Minicraft (128*128 * 1/50). The LightMask struggles with 5504 pixels (86*64), mostly with lava where lighting has overlap. I was able to do a light mask of 128*98 effectively with a few light sources.
Entities have pretty simple AI. No A*, just tries to chase the player if they're close.
Really depends on if interactions occur with just neighbors or over a distance, but there's also frame skipping involved from lighting getting stressed (~60fps with one light source that fills a good amount of the screen, ~30fps+ with 3-4, ~20fps with lava edge tiles)
@umer936 mostly doing homebrew projects to justify getting a DS again, but it's pretty fun lol. Biggest issue I'm seeing is internet requires WEP and not many people have been working with projects that use https (a lot will give up after needing https)
